Jewish Museum London announces reopening date of July 11th

Jewish Museum London will open to the public again on July 11th , after a 15 month closure. Tickets will be available on the website from July 6th .

The museum has received two grants from the Culture Recovery Fund totalling over £295,000, which have helped it to reimagine the museum for a new era, with a focus on new types of learning experience.

Visitors will have the opportunity to help digitise the collection, see and handle objects, browse the library and explore community organisations over coffee and pastries. Family groups will be treated to a personalised experience of challah baking and activities in the galleries.

Since closing, the museum has run a pioneering digital programme, including virtual talks, tours and classrooms that reached over 130,000 people to date.

Frances Jeens, Interim Director of the Jewish Museum London said:
“We are absolutely thrilled at the prospect of welcoming our audiences back into the building. Our work is all about encounters between people and collections, and after more than a year of highly successful digital engagement, it means the world to us that we can now create physical encounters once again. We’ve taken every precaution to ensure this is a safe environment for all generations to enjoy. Visitors will find we are open in a way that we haven’t been before, with new opportunities to see and handle items from the collections. The world has changed, and we have used our time of closure to reimagine what a museum can be. We can’t wait to share it.”

Nick Viner, Chair of Trustees of the Jewish Museum London said:
“Jewish Museum London plays a vital role in caring for the designated collection of Anglo-Jewish history and culture, and serving as a centre for dialogue, discovery and learning. During closure it has been an inspiration to see how an ever-growing audience engaged with the collection through virtual tours and classrooms. Now we are delighted to be able to welcome visitors through our doors to explore the Jewish community’s heritage and history in person.”
