Object Information

In this image, a group of people at St Albans Masorti Synagogue (SAMS) are standing with the finished products of their knitting event for Centre 33. This was part of SAMS’ Mitzvah Day programme.

The word ‘Mitzvah’ means commandment in Hebrew. There are 613 commandments in the Torah. These are religious obligations but the word Mitzvah can also mean a good deed. Mitzvah Day takes place in November. It is a faith-led day in which social action projects are run by communities all over the UK.

Centre 33 is a volunteer led charity established in 1991 and provides practical support for people who are in need, homeless, or otherwise socially deprived.
