Object Information

This is a black and white photograph of the interior of the Bencoolen Street Synagogue, Singapore in 1946. Here, the Torah scrolls of the community are seen. As is common in Sephardi communities, the Torah is stored in a wooden or metal case called a tiq. Many Jewish servicemen serving in the city attended services here.
