The Jewish Museum challenged young people to explore an object from our collections as part of the Animated Museum Project. Over the course of a week these teenagers produced short animated films featuring objects from the Jewish Museum and Jewish Military Museum collections.

This film shows us how a Spice Tower is used during the Havdalah service to close Shabbat.

Many Jewish families will use a Spice Tower at the end of Shabbat. Inside the Spice Tower would be strong, sweet spices such as cinnamon sticks, cloves and nutmeg. Just before Shabbat ends, each member of the family will spell the sweet spices in the Spice Box to remember the sweet memories of their Shabbat.
