Event Type

The Jewish Museum London is delighted to invite families to a morning of free craft activities and sensory play themed around the Jewish festival of Shavuot, kindly hosted by Swiss Cottage Library Camden in their children’s library space. No booking is needed as the session will run on a drop-in basis from 10am-12pm. The session will be staffed and run by the museum’s Learning team, supported by Swiss Cottage library staff. Guidance on the activities and resources will be provided free of charge. There will be two activities aimed at children ages 5-11. The first activity offers visitors the chance to make, decorate and take home a ‘story scroll’, inspired by the idea of the Torah as a scroll of stories.

The second activity for this age range is a mountain scene mural, where visitors will be invited to layer their drawings of mountains or nature onto a banner in order to create a collaborative artwork. The museum will be digitising the finished creation. Both these activities link to the festival of Shavuot where Jewish people celebrate the giving of the Torah to the community on Mount Sinai.

In addition, we will have sensory resources available for under 5’s. These will link to Shavuot as a harvest festival and give visitors the opportunity to explore different harvest products.

Adults are welcome to attend with children and no child can be left unaccompanied. The library is wheelchair accessible and has accessible toilets as well as baby changing facilities and space to park buggies. There is also a Café on site.

We look forward to welcoming you!
