Digitisation Volunteers
We are not currently looking for new Digitisation Volunteers.
This team of volunteers carry out collections digitisation tasks. They are based in our Research Centre and engage with visitors in this space; sharing the tasks they are doing and encouraging visitors to get involved. It is a great opportunity to volunteer with our collection and learn more about Jewish History.
What does this volunteer team do?
Digitisation Volunteers volunteer with our collection, supporting us in a range of tasks. These may include:
- Scanning 2D items from the collection to create a digital image
- Renaming digital files before uploading them to ADLIB (our collections database)
- Transcribing written documents including letters
- Transcribing audio files including oral histories
- Repacking small items in the collection to improve their storage and accessibility
When can I volunteer?
Digitisation Volunteers support us on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Some volunteers choose to volunteer on the same day each week/ fortnight. Other volunteers vary the days they come in. You can volunteer for a morning or an afternoon shift.
What can I expect from the museum?
- We will provide training for every task you do.
- We will regularly review volunteer tasks and ask for your feedback to improve and evolve.
- Our Collections Engagement Manager and Collections Engagement Assistant will be your coordinators and available to provide support and answer any questions.
- We really value our volunteers and to say thank you we offer perks for volunteers. This includes hosting exclusive events for our volunteers and discounts in our shop.

- Happy to be trained in the use of scanners, basic spreadsheets, and Word documents
- Happy to be trained in basic object handling and collections care
