{"id":7009,"date":"2019-09-19T14:03:09","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jewishmuseum.org.uk\/?p=7009"},"modified":"2019-09-19T14:03:09","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T13:03:09","slug":"jews-money-myth-shortlisted-for-a-museums-change-lives-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jewishmuseum.org.uk\/2019\/09\/19\/jews-money-myth-shortlisted-for-a-museums-change-lives-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Jews, Money, Myth shortlisted for a Museums Change Lives Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are delighted to be shortlisted for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumsassociation.org\/news\/18092019-announcing-shortlist-for-museums-change-lives-awards\">Museums Association Museum\u2019s Change Lives Award<\/a> for our major exhibition, Jews, Money, Myth.<\/p>\n<p>The awards champion the work of individuals and institutions working with and for their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The finalists all represent innovative projects working to inspire change in the lives of their audiences, and reflect a broad range of voices, regions and themes.<\/p>\n<p>Judges look to reward projects that successfully reflect one or more of the themes of the Museums Changes Lives campaign: promoting health and wellbeing, creating better places, and inspiring engagement, reflection and debate.<\/p>\n<p>Jews, Money, Myth explores the role of money in Jewish life and its often vexed place in relations between Jews and non-Jews, from the time of Jesus to the 21<sup>st<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p>It examines the origins of some of the longest running and deeply entrenched antisemitic stereotypes: the theological roots of the association of Jews with money; the myths and reality of the medieval Jewish moneylender; and the place of Jews \u2013 real and imagined \u2013 in commerce, capitalism and finance up to the present day.<\/p>\n<p>We have been nominated alongside:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Glasgow Women\u2019s Library \u2013 Decoding Inequality<\/li>\n<li>Scottish Maritime Museum \u2013 Garnock Connections Skiff Project<\/li>\n<li>Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums \u2013 Women of Tyneside<\/li>\n<li>Time and Tide Museum \u2013 Seaside Suitcases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 3 October during the Museum Association conference in Brighton.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are delighted to be shortlisted for a Museums Association Museum\u2019s Change Lives Award for our major exhibition, Jews, Money, Myth.
