This photograph shows the “during” of a Seder meal at the Krikler home in March 2018. Seder is a traditional meal that is held at the beginning of the 8-day festival of Passover. Passover (Hebrew: Pesach) is the Jewish festival that celebrates the miraculous exodus of Jewish slaves from Egypt, as told in the Torah.
The donor’s husband comes from a large family so there are always lots of people joining the celebrations, as well as friends who happened to be in London at the time. Hosting Seder night for such a large crowd is no small task. It requires lots of planning, for example clearing away all the furniture the night before, laying the table and hiring chairs to accommodate guests.
Participants will spend many hours at the table, following the order (Hebrew: seder) outlined in the Haggadah. The Haggadah is a guiding book containing the story of Passover, blessings over symbolic foods, and songs about freedom. There are several items that play an important part at the Seder, all of which need to be placed on the table. Each Person will need access to a Seder plate, a Haggadah and extra crockery for the occasion.
