- Object Information
In this photograph, Rabbi Rene of Kingston Liberal Synagogue and Alexandra are saying the prayer after choosing her Jewish name. It shows the occasion of Alexandra Eli’ana Esther Boyd’s conversion, as she is welcomed by the Wessex Liberal Jewish Community, after going to the Beit Din (Jewish court of law).
Alexandra’s grandmother lived a hidden life as a refugee from Prussia in the war. She could never celebrate her Jewishness openly for fear of persecution. Alexandra wanted to pay homage to her grandmother’s memory and heritage, as she and her children are now able to proudly display their Jewishness.

How does this image represent your Jewish identity?
My Jewish Identity can now be proven by my conversion papers as my Grandmother had not any of her papers left and lived a hidden life as a refugee from Prussia in the war
Why is this image important to you?
It is the moment myself and my children came home to our rightful place and because I am able to proudly display my Jewishness in memory of my grandmother who never could because of the fear of being murdered
In three words, what does Judaism mean to you?
Grandmother , Community and Familyheritage
