Intern’s Choice: Kristallnacht Painting

We asked our interns to choose their favourite objects in the museum. Learning interns, Zahra and Fergal, chose to explore this Hans Jackson print named ‘Burning Synagogue.’

It is one part of a series of paintings called Prelude to the Holocaust which depict the experience of being Jewish in Nazi Germany at this time. Kristallnacht represented the beginning of the Holocaust and a turning point in the lead up to the war. On this night November 9th 1938, throughout Germany Jewish buildings and business were wrecked by groups of Nazis.
