Bring your class to visit us at our temporary workshop venue, Swiss Cottage Library! Our award-winning, multisensory and interactive workshops are now available to book on select weeks throughout the academic year.
Discovering Judaism: Torah and Shabbat is a whole day visit from 10:30am to 2pm including time for lunch.

Discovering Judaism: Torah and Shabbat
Why is the Torah central to Jewish Life and why do Jewish people observe Shabbat? In this workshop students will explore and handle objects from the collection connected to the Torah and Shabbat celebrations. They will find out about how the Torah is treated, interpreted, and beautified, as well as the traditions and symbolism of Shabbat objects.
Learning Objectives:
- To understand the centrality of the text of the Torah as a guide to Jewish life.
- To understand that each Torah is an exact replica and the traditions associated with making a Torah.
- To understand the sacredness and importance of objects connected with the Torah, objects used in Synagogue, and in Jewish daily life.
- To understand the link between the Creation Story and Shabbat.
- To know the symbolism and universality of Shabbat.
- To leave with a positive view of what Shabbat means to Jewish families.
