Description

A letter, or citation about Pte. Morris Solomon’s awarding of the Military Medal. Morris enlisted on 29 February 1916 and served with the Northumberland Fusiliers and 8th Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment. The photograph shows Morris in December of that year.

This document states that Morris showed conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty during the operations on 7th, 8th and 9th June 1917, in the Mount Sorrel Sector. The document reads ‘Morris acted as Brigade Runner and carried out his duties with perseverance, regardless of heavy shell fire. Pte. Solomon has done exceptionally good work while he has been with the battalion.’

He was awarded the Military Medal in June 1917 and continued to serve, his unit seeing action in the Battle of the Somme. A year later on 12 June 1918 when he was discharged for being no longer physically fit for war service due to a gunshot wound on his right hand.
