A painting of a group of people looking at a Torah scroll

Concluding the festival of Sukkot, Simchat Torah is a joyous festival to celebrate the Torah. Each Sabbath, a portion of the Torah is read throughout the year and this yearly cycle ends on the last day of Sukkot when the last portion of the outgoing year, followed by the first portion of the new cycle are being read. Afterward, all Torah scrolls in the synagogue are being carried around the synagogue in a happy procession that is accompanied by singing and dancing.

Curator Dr Kathrin Pieren will take visitors to the Judaism Gallery to look at the Torah and its decorations and also show visitors some of the beautiful Torah scrolls and magnificent Torah mantles that are not usually on display.
