Documenting the Present: The Impact of Oct 7th on the British Jewish Community

Jewish Museum London tells the story of the British Jewish experience throughout the centuries. Our collections include both joyful celebrations and successes, whilst offering moments of reflection on the challenges faced in difficult times. Whilst we aim to present the past in new ways, we equally understand the need to preserve the present, to continue the narrative for future generations.

A year on from the events of Oct 7th and the subsequent escalation of events in Gaza, Israel, and Lebanon, it is important to document the impact the conflict has had on British Jews across the spectrum of today’s UK Judaism. As an organisation not affiliated with any specific strand of Judaism nor political stance, we serve as a space where the diversity of views are respected and voices can be heard.

This autumn we begin a new initiative, inviting people to offer the Museum their images, items or responses that reflect the impact of the conflict on their lives as British Jews. This includes both physical and digital material such as photos, placards, audio, and film. All offers will be considered against our collecting criteria for the purpose of future research, educational use, or potential display.

If you have an item you would like to consider donating to the Museum please complete the  donation offer questionnaire and return by email to [email protected]
