Jewish Museum shortlisted for Family Friendly Museum Award

The Jewish Museum London is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Family Friendly Museum Award. One of the biggest museum awards in Britain, the Family Friendly Museum Award is also the only one where families pick the winner.

This is the first year that the Jewish Museum London has appeared on the final shortlist for the prestigious award.

Recent highlights of the museum’s family programme include ‘Curious Explorers’; a relaxed morning for children with autism or other social communication conditions and their families as well as an ‘Access for All’ day. Other popular successes have been a Family Music Festival with DJing workshops, a children’s silent disco and Yiddish choir performances, as well as BabyJazz and street art workshops.

“Congratulations to the Jewish Museum for reaching the shortlist of the Family Friendly Museum Award. It’s a great achievement in a really competitive year, with over 700 nominations. In the last year they have really focused their efforts on their family welcome and come a long way in a short period of time. They’ve been getting the message out really well through their website, developing their flexible family ticket pricing and offering opportunities for young people to experience the galleries with all their senses – there’s a kitchen where you can smell traditional chicken soup and have a go at braiding challah bread.”

The ten shortlisted museums will be road-tested anonymously by families over the summer using the new Kids in Museums Mini Manifesto as a guide to their family and child friendliness.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London in October 2017.
