Time: 7-9.30pm

Categories: talks live demonstrations

Good evening all! Welcome to our standup comedy night!

Asterix found much to laugh about when he came to visit these Isles – but how do we feel about Britishness today?

In an evening curated by Ben Van der Velde, resident MC at the Good Ship Comedy, these diverse comics including Sophie Duker, Pierre Novellie and Sindhu Vee, will be tackling the topics of identity, assimilation and Brexit!

Ben Van der Velde

Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter, who, over the past few years, has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the British Isles, as well as Greece, Switzerland, Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Norway.

Sophie Duker

Sophie Duker is a wickedly funny new comedian with banter and braids for days. She reached the finals of the prestigious Funny Women Awards a few months after her first stand-up gig, is a co-host of the cult comedy show MANIC PIXIE DREAM GIRLS and in 2017 appeared in the prestigious Pleasance Reserve showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe.

She has written for BBC Radio Comedy on programmes such as The Now Show, It’s Jocelyn and Newsjack, and is a comedy contributor to The Huffington Post.

Sindhu Vee

I grew up in the Philippines, Lucknow and Delhi, my dad is Tamil, my mum is from Uttar Pradesh, I studied in Delhi, Oxford, Montreal and Chicago, my husband is Danish, I live in London, and I can probably do your accent.

I TOLD MY FIRST JOKE AT AGE 4
I had a terrible stutter so it took a very. Long. Time.

I USED TO BE A BANKER
Calm down.

I HAVE THREE CHILDREN
They tell me they're laughing with me, not at me. *eyeroll*

I GET PAID TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH
Can it get better, you ask? Yes. Hire me.

Pierre Novellie

Pierre Novellie is one of the best up-and-coming comedians in the United Kingdom.

Pierre is a regular correspondent in BBC2’s The Mash Report hosted by Nish Kumar and performed on the most recent series of Stand Up Central on Comedy Central. He previously had a regular role in the three-part Channel 4 Comedy Blap, Outsiders, as well as appearing in the Joke Thievespilot for BBC2 opposite Marcus Brigstocke, BBC3’s Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live and 4OD’s comedy series Taxi Gags and a guest on Frank Skinner’s Radio 4 panel show The Rest is History.
